Its memory configuration includes 1 MB of battery-backed Random Access Memory (RAM) (relying on the IC697ACC701 battery for backup) and 256 KB of non-volatile flash memory—the latter dedicated to storing system firmware. A key advantage of the flash memory is that firmware updates can be completed without disassembling the module or replacing EPROMs, simplifying maintenance.
